Happy New Year

“Let in only what frees you this new year, what keeps the heart clear.”

Begin here. Wherever it is you are. With a newfound sense of purpose that new years can bring. Lose momentum, gain it again in May, or June, or even November. It does not matter if you stop and start again a thousand times, just that you start again.

Open your heart. But only to the things that will infuse in you new life. Close it up tight for those that take.

Discover new things like you were a child being taken to the science center for the first time. Dig for dinosaur bones. Feel what it’s like to walk on the moon. Or simply roll marbles down a plastic rollercoaster track.

Don’t stop believing you can do anything. Be shameless again, or for the first time ever. We are not here to impress other people. We are here to live so that our life feels like ours. There may be a deeper purpose, there may not, but either way—divinely created or magnificent chance—we are here to love.

Love who you are.

Love what you do.

Love others as you love yourself, but not more.

Love the sweet serendipity life sometimes gives you.

Love the little things, like your morning coffee or feeling your dog breathing as he lies across your lap.

Love where you’ve come from, for it will always be part of you. Whether good or bad memories, they’ve shaped who you are. And you must love who you are, remember?

Love the path you’ve chosen. If not, backtrack, and choose a different path. You can do this whenever you like, as often as you like. Life has no rules. Still, I will give you one: Be a good person.

If that is all you do in this new year, know that the good you put out into the world matters. You are doing something that matters.

xoxo,
Sasha
