Everywhere I wish to go, there is a barrier. It’s never enough to just be joyful, kind, and full of life. Who cares what work experience I have? What references? How many stories I’ve published by the time I’m twenty-two? Some people don’t have the privileges to start young. Some people can only start now.
But now is hard. Now you have adult responsibilities. Maybe kids, aging parents, most definitely a job and grocery shopping. You don’t have the endless afternoons in high-school when you only had yourself, your mind, and time.
You should have started young. But how was I to know? My parents didn’t tell me. They were gone, or busy, or dealing with their own adult responsibilities. So, I had to teach myself, to be my own support system, my own parent. I was too busy raising myself to start getting ahead.
Maybe you’re in the same boat. I guess we’ll have to navigate these waters together.
xoxo,
Sasha
